Removing the air conditioning (A/C) system:
I am not a huge fan of A/C to begin with and the A/C lines were in my way when getting at the steering rack, so I told myself I’d get rid of the whole stupid system and keep things simple. Again, because the engine is located behind the driver, this means that the A/C compressor (which is driven by the engine) is also located in this area. In a similar manner to the cooling system, a complicated feed/return setup is required to connect the compressor to the evaporator and condenser at the front of the car.
Here you can see why the A/C lines become a pain during other repairs. The steering rack is hidden behind the A/C lines and this makes removing the steering rack much more difficult.
